Eagles Performing Well in Young Indoor Season

Tuesday, March 14 2017 - Batavia Distance Madness - Arthur Santoro

Already halfway through their 2017 indoor campaign, the Eagles have performed strongly at both the varsity and frosh-soph levels, attacking the all-time top-10 lists and recording a handful of new school records along the way.

Senior Arthur Santoro has already lowered two of his own number one marks, eclipsing his previous indoor school record in both the 600m and 800m run.  Last week at the Batavia Distance Madness meet, the senior dipped under his old best in the 800m by nearly three tenths of a second, after shattering his 600m record by nearly three seconds a week prior at Hinsdale Central.  In the same race, senior Zach Benes continued his stellar season by also dipping under the old school record mark, with junior Jeremy Brown joining him.  The trio now own the top three times in school history for the event, while senior Daniel Garcia-Rico also added his name to the list in the sixth spot.

Also making noise on the all-time lists has been a contingent of freshmen and new sophomore additions who have enjoyed strong starts this season. Freshman Ryan DeSantis picked up where he left off in the fall, being the first freshman to break the five minute barrier this season in the 1600m run and recording the second fastest indoor time for freshmen in his 3200m run debut last weekend.  Joining him has been fellow freshman Matt Lagges who cracked the top-ten all-time for freshmen in the indoor 400m dash and 600m run.

New to the track this season, sophomore Liam Reynolds has proven to be a big boost for the frosh-soph mid-distance team, adding his name among the program's all-time sophomore indoor marks in both the 400m and 600m events while leading the way in numerous relay races during the indoor campaign.
