Varsity with Two Team Trophies, Frosh-Soph Takes Libertyvillle as Regular Season Continues

Wednesday, October 9 2019 - Palatine Invite - Meet of Champions - Anthony Maida

With the regular season well underway, both the varsity and frosh-soph squads have posted numerous successful team performances throughout their fall campaign as they prepare to enter the second phase of their year.

Racing as a full team only twice thus far this fall, the varsity team has found themselves on the podium in both races as they took home a third-place finish at the Lake Park Harvey Braus Invitational and a fifth place finish at the prestigious Palatine Invitational Meet of Champions.

The top-five billing at Palatine was the first time the Eagles have earned the traditional hat (awarded to top-five team finishes) in that division since their historic 2012 season where they placed third.   Senior Anthony Maida also made history in the same race, recording the program's best ever individual finish in seven years attending the meet.  Senior Ian Bacon, in his season debut, joined Maida on the podium with a 19th place finish while Sam Mortensen brought home his own individual medal with a twenty-first place finish in the freshmen division.

The varsity team performance served as an encore to their season-opening top-three finish at Lake Park, where Maida, along with senior Ryan DeSantis and junior Andy Niser, paced Jones as individual medalists.

Taking home the lone team championship so far this season, the frosh-soph team snagged the team title at the Libertyville Invitational for the first time in program history behind the efforts of Kai Lee, Alan Menninger, Jayden Reyes, Alexander Papadopoulos, Sam Mortensen, Esteban Medina and Sam McCain who were all individual medalists.
