West Suburban Conference - Gold Division

Leyden (IL) High School - Northlake, IL -- Centerpoint Facility

Things started with the Freshman Race where DGS rolled to an easy victory! Max O'Meara led the charge with a huge personal best, winning the two mile race in 10:46. Alan Zhou was close behind in 4th, followed by other scorers and all-conference performers (top 16): Jack Lalonde 7th, Austin Rutkowski 8th, Chris Lippi 12th, and Zach Scheffel 15th. All 6 of those athletes were under 12 minutes for the race.

The momentum continued in the second race where the Sophomores also ran to a comfortable win. Drew Heneghan and Ethan Kirk ran well battling up front for the whole 3.1 miles with Morton's Robert Loris. Unfortunately, Loris had just enough to pull away in the last 100 meters for the win, but coming in closely behind were Drew in 2nd, Michael Fogarty who made a great move in the last mile to get 3rd, and Ethan in 4th. Nick Grazier also ran well in 8th place, with Danny Annese and Steven Rotunno close behind in 11th and 12th.

The Varsity squad was up next. The tough DGS squad that has been beleagured by nagging injuries thoughout the year ran a courageous race to hold off Leyden for 3rd overall. David Fish led the way with his impressive 5th place All-Conference performance, beating a number of runners who had beaten him earlier in the season. Sophomore Ryan Heneghan also was All-Conference, placing 13th. Critical to our team placing were Sam Ciucci, P.J. White, and Brian Rotunno who placed 17th, 19th, and 20th. The trio of Mustangs were able to defeat the #3 runner from Leyden which helped us overcome the fact that Leyden had two runners in the top 4.

The final race of a long and wet day was the JV race. Running well and getting the top 16 for DGS were Dan Reeter, who placed 4th, Taylor Enke 7th, and Alex Hartig 9th.
