Hinsdale/Proviso Meet Recap

Wednesday, September 21 2016

Monday's meet at KLM Park against Hinsdale South and Proviso East could not have gone much better from a team standpoint. Going up against Hinsdale South on their home course was a great test for us to see how we look in Conference at this point. Last fall we narrowly beat them in October for the Conference title beating them by a mere 3 points.

Our plan on Monday was to try and "send a message" that we are the team to beat in Conference. We did this and then some garnering convincing wins against the likely best competition we'll face down the homestretch on all levels. On the varsity level we beat South 18-45 and East 15-50 (remember that a "perfect score" is 15). We also won on Freshmen and Sophomore levels 20-41 and 18-42 respectively.

With all levels being contested in the same all-level 90 man race, we impressively had 13 of the first 15 finishers with just one competitor from each of our opponents taking the other two spots.

Stephen Pipilas won the overall race by 19 seconds over teammate Akhil Ghosh. After Chris Joseph of South placed 3rd, DGS had the next 8 finishers. James Weigel was the 4th overall finisher and first sophomore in the race although having scored him in as varsity, technically George Willer was the first in the sophomore race (8th overall). A huge personal best of 17:46 by John Norris gave him the win at the freshman level over 30 seconds ahead of the next freshman. On a tough, hilly course on a pretty warm day, the Mustangs showed up to compete and we saw a tremendous amount of personal bests throughout the team.

Next on the agenda for DGS is the Leyden Eagle Invite on Saturday. We'll look to keep some momentum going and hopefully come home with hardware in our first year attending this meet.
